Happy Ganesh Chaturthi

Happy Ganesh Chaturthi

Ganesh Chaturthi or Vinayaka Chaturthi is a Hindu festival that reveres Lord Ganesha.  It is a ten-day festival and is celebrated by Hindu families world over.  This incredible festival celebrates Lord Ganesha on his birthday as the God of New Beginnings and the Remover of Obstacles as well as the god of wisdom and intelligence.  Here are our simple ways to celebrate this beautiful at home with your children:

Lord Ganesh Clay Murti (Idol)

Usually available in the stores in bare mud form, tap into your child’s creativity in decorating the murti.  This is also a great way to nurture creativity in your little child.

New Clothes

Take your children shopping a week in advance to purchase new clothes they can wear on the day of the festival.

Sloka for Little Children

Here is a very popular sloka chanted by little children on this auspicious day:

Vakratunda Mahakaya Suryakoti Samaprabha

Nirvighnam Kurume Deva Sarva kaaryeshu Sarvada

What it means:

O Lord Ganesha, you having a Curved Trunk, Large Body,

possessing the Brilliance of a Million Suns,

Please remove all obstacles to my work, at all times.
